Todd Boehly has ‘a lot of money’ behind his Chelsea takeover and ‘there will be a lot of investment’ once the deal is done, reveals new Blues manager Daniel Finkelstein
- Chelsea’s impending takeover by Todd Boehly was confirmed on Saturday morning
- He was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Wolves
- The government is in the process of authorizing the sale of Chelsea to Boehly
Todd Boehly is ready to invest heavily in the Chelsea squad once his £4.25bn takeover of the London club has been ratified, according to Daniel Finkelstein, who is expected to join Chelsea’s new board.
Finkelstein, who is a member of the House of Lords, a Tory peer and a Chelsea supporter, was asked about Boehly’s impending takeover of sanctioned Russian Roman Abramovich during an appearance on TalkTV.
“We are still in the early stages – he has a sale deal with Chelsea and now the government has to clear the sale as they are a sanctioned club and the Premier League have to decide I am a fit director” , Finkelstein mentioned.

“I think Chelsea are going to have a fabulous owner in Todd Boehly – I’m really impressed with him.” I was very impressed before meeting him, I think the same way he does about sports, so it was kind of a meeting anyway.
“I like him a lot, but I think he has big plans too. So, as a Chelsea fan who was worried when the club had to be sold, I look at how the club can be improved rather than just how we can prevent it from getting worse.
Finkelstein continued, “The work of the owner is judged by how well we spend the money, not just how much we spend.
“The truth is there is a lot of money behind Todd Boehly’s offer, there will be a lot of investment in the club but it will also be invested wisely.”
Boehly, who also co-owns the LA Dodgers baseball team, was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, hours after his takeover was announced.
Chelsea surrendered a 2-0 lead that day in a disappointing result to start the new era.
Speaking on Tuesday, manager Thomas Tuchel revealed he has yet to meet Boehly or find out how much money he needs to spend this summer.
‘Absolutely not. Maybe if I had, I wouldn’t tell you! But I don’t have one, so I don’t need to lie,” Tuchel said.
“Nothing has changed for us at Cobham, we are still waiting for confirmation, that things are moving forward, to hopefully have some news for you and for us, for the team, to inject some positive energy.”
“It feels like it’s going to come to an end and give us the opportunity to act, but right now it’s not like that.”

He added: “We are the only club at the moment suffering like this, maybe the first club to have done this.”
“It’s a unique situation and quite a difficult situation. Of course, everyone hopes that the situation will be clarified.
“These are steps in the right direction. We have been waiting for it for a long time.
“We need the positive energy and the competitive atmosphere at the club. It’s very important for things to move forward.
