Zara Phythian and her husband Victor Marke have been convicted of sex crimes.

The Doctor Strange actress and her partner have been charged with sex crimes that allegedly began when the victim was 13.

The jury panel retired to consider their verdicts on Tuesday May 10 and returned today (May 11) with their decision.

The actress, who starred in the 2016 Marvel film, and her husband were found guilty by Nottingham Crown Court of a series of child sex charges after they jointly groomed and abused a teenage girl.

Phythian, 37, was convicted of 14 counts of sexual activity with a child committed between 2005 and 2008, when the victim was in her early teens.

Jurors also found her 59-year-old husband Victor Marke guilty of the same 14 indecent assault offenses and charges relating to another underage girl he abused on at least eight occasions between 2002 and 2003.

Judge Mark Watson remanded both defendants in custody until a bail or sentencing hearing at 2 p.m.

The trial began on April 26 when prosecutors alleged the couple engaged in multiple sexual acts with a young girl in Nottinghamshire.

Victor Marke and Zara Phythian, of Taurus Close, Mansfield, named after Marke’s wife, have denied a series of serious sex crimes.

In her video to Nottinghamshire Crown Court, the girl said Phythian encouraged her to perform oral sex on Mr Marke before he had sex with the two.

Speaking to police, she said: “I knew it was wrong but I just didn’t know how to get out of the situation or say anything.

“I remember trying to copy Zara’s reaction back then because I looked up to her and tried to be like her in every way.”

She expressed helplessness, unable to tell anyone following Marke’s alleged threats that he would hurt her if she told anyone about what had happened.

In her testimony to police, she said: “He just said no one would believe me if I told them anyway.

“They’ve always had power over me.”
